Job Description

We seek to hire a Mechanical CAD Technician in our Macon, GA office who will be responsible for assisting in the production of construction drawings. Typical responsibilities include drafting of marked-up plans, sections, details, and notes produced by the senior project staff; three-dimensional modeling of the project, and  development of schematic-level documents with minimal or modest direction from the Mechanical Engineer. 

General responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Performing all aspects of modeling and/or drafting on projects, or portions of projects, as directed by the design manager or project engineer. Projects may include single-discipline or multi-discipline building-type structures for both new and existing construction.
  • Discussing with the engineer and developing resolution for all instances of conflict in the building elements and the work of another discipline discovered during the drafting and/or modeling process
  • Adhering to company and department standards for both CAD and BIM projects
  • Communicating and coordinating with technicians and professionals from other disciplines during the development of models, plans, sections, and details. Results of such communication and coordination shall be shared with the engineers or designers working on the project.
  • Assist with review of shop drawing submittals for general conformance with the contract drawings
  • Complying with quality control policies and procedures
  • Serving as a mentor to entry-level staff who are unfamiliar with the production of contract drawings

Project responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Assist Engineers and Interns with tasks as assigned
  • Drafting of marked-up plans, partial plans, sections, details, and notes provided by the Engineer.
  • Completing sections and details produced to a schematic-level of completion by the Engineer.
  • Developing an accurate, three-dimensional model of the project with the necessary level of detail using the required Building Information Modeling (BIM) software package
  • Coordination with technicians and professionals from other disciplines within the design team
  • Participate in multi-discipline BIM coordination efforts
  • Adhere to project budget and schedule

Education

  • Have earned a high school diploma, or equivalent, and completed coursework in AutoCAD, REVIT, and/or BIM software packages (Navisworks) from a technical or vocational school; or
  • An Associate’s Degree in a field of study related to drafting and design; or
  • A certificate in a field of study related to building drafting and design; or
  • A four-year undergraduate degree in a field of study related to mechanical engineering

Licenses, Certifications, and Accreditations

  • Certificate of Management for Building Information Modeling (CM-BIM)
  • Applicable Autodesk certifications
  • LEED AP or actively pursuing LEED accreditation
  • Active membership in drafting or modeling-related organizations (local or web-based)

Software Skills

Familiarity with any of the following software is highly desirable:

  • AutoCAD MEP
  • Autodesk Revit
  • Building heating/cooling load calculation software such as Trane Trace or Carrier HAP
  • Building energy modeling software such as Trane Trace, IES-VE, eQuest, or Energy Plus

Career Experience

A Mechanical CAD Technician must meet all of the educational requirements for the position and have some office experience as a CAD or BIM technician with demonstrable proficiency in the use of AutoCAD, REVIT, and/or Bentley BIM software packages.
