Job Description

We seek to hire an Energy Engineering Student in our Virginia Beach, VA office beginning Summer 2019 who will perform special project assignments and participate in energy project execution.  Clark Nexsen’s Energy Market Sector partners and collaborates with other firm market sectors to identify and assist on projects with sustainability, energy efficiency and/or energy resiliency requirements.

General responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Working with team members to perform a wide variety of sustainability and energy related project duties, including oversight and assistance with:
    • Energy audits, re/retro-commissioning, technical feasibility studies
    • Writing energy project narratives, process descriptions, etc.
    • Energy project statement of work (SOW) development
    • Oversight of energy and water efficiency projects
    • Utility data management, benchmarking, and analysis
    • Preparation of energy and sustainability performance reports
    • Evaluation and conceptual design of renewable energy technologies
    • Performing fieldwork and various systems surveys to collect energy data in support of performing cost and related financial payback analysis
  • Working with, responding to, and taking direction from Project Managers, Design Managers, Senior Architects, Senior Engineers, Architects or Engineers
  • Participating in team meetings and coordinating efforts with other team members
  • Develop analysis and design skills
  • Learning and implementing department and company standards
  • Complying with quality control policies and procedures

Education

Currently enrolled as a full-time student in an ABET accredited program and have completed at least their second year of study in one of the following programs:

  • Energy Engineering (preferred)
  • Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology
  • Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology
  • Architectural Engineering (mechanical/electrical engineering focus)

Software Skills

Applicant should be able to effectively utilize basic Microsoft Office programs such as Outlook, Word, Excel, and Powerpoint.

Familiarity with any of the following software is highly desirable:

  • AutoCAD MEP
  • Autodesk Revit
  • Building heating/cooling load calculation software such as Trane Trace or Carrier HAP
  • Building energy modeling software such as Trane Trace, IES-VE, eQuest, Energy Plus
  • Power system analysis software such as SKM

Career Experience

One previous engineering internship or similar relevant work experience is preferred.
