DESCRIPTION

We seek to hire an Architect in our Charlotte, NC office. An Architect’s responsibility at Clark Nexsen is to successfully perform in a collaborative environment with internal design professionals and consultants on active projects. You will be able to contribute your skills and knowledge to develop projects as an integral part to achieve client satisfaction and enhance design quality. You will work on multi-discipline building design projects of small to moderate scope for higher education, commercial, and civic facilities. Together we discover, inspire, and shape ideas that transform our world.

Qualified applicants possess an Accredited Professional Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture, registered architect, and 4+ years of significant design experience.

As an Architect at Clark Nexsen, your responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:

  • Performing all aspects of architectural design services including conceptual studies, programming, schematic documents, design development documents, and construction documents under the direct supervision of the Managing Principal, Design Manager or Senior Architect
  • Working on a multi-discipline design team and collaborate with engineering consultants for all phases of project development
  • Perform applicable agency review analysis (state, accessibility, life-safety, etc.)
  • Coordinate, review and develop drawings along with technical specifications for review by Design Manager or Senior Architect
  • Providing architectural services associated with the bidding process and construction phase (Field visits, RFIs, RFP’s, ASI’s, change orders, etc.)
  • Participate and/or lead team meetings and coordination efforts with other team members
  • Direct, organize, and mentor junior staff with project assignments with responsibility for oversight
  • Seek ways to partner, discover and transform projects
  • Continue to develop knowledge and skills to contribute to award winning designs
  • Participate in marketing efforts and ways to develop our practice
  • Adhere to project budget and schedule

SOFTWARE AND TECHNICAL COMPETENCY

  • Demonstrate technical production skills required to produce design and construction documents
  • Proficiency in Revit is required
  • Proficiency in 3D modeling software, visualization, and graphic software; Rhino and Adobe Suite may be given additional consideration
  • Ability to visually communicate information through sketches, graphics or other medium
  • Knowledge and application of relevant codes such as state building code and accessibility code
  • Technical knowledge and experience in development of building envelope systems through product selection, detailing and specifications
  • Proficiency in scripting and visual coding for architectural applications are desirable

EDUCATION 

  • Bachelor of Architecture from an NAAB-accredited program -or-
  • Masters of Architecture (MA must be from an NAAB-accredited program)

CAREER EXPERIENCE

An Architect should typically have 4 years or more of significant design experience as an architect intern in an architectural firm or a multi-discipline Architectural & Engineering firm.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, AND ACCREDITATIONS 

  • Must be a fully licensed Architect in at least one US state, preferably in the local jurisdiction
  • NCARB certified to facilitate licensure through reciprocity is preferred 
  • Committed to sustainable design principles and design practices with LEED AP accreditation preferred 
  • Additional certifications such as CDT, CCS, or CCCA are encouraged to reflect personal growth in the profession and an ever-increasing knowledge base to enhance the design and documentation process
